Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Sets New Speed Record at Speed Week Australia

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Salt Racer, modified by Mid Life Cycles in Melbourne, has set a new speed record at Speed Week Australia, held at Lake Gairdner, South Australia. The motorcycle achieved a top speed of 212.514 km/h (132.050 mph), surpassing the previous record of 119.961 mph set in 2016.

Record-Breaking Performance

The remarkable performance of the Interceptor 650 was evident from the first day of Speed Week on March 8, 2021, when Charlie Hallam, the rider, clocked an initial run at 121.782 mph. This was quickly followed by a 123.601 mph pass, setting a provisional record of 122.691 mph.

On the second day, the motorcycle recorded speeds of 128.935 mph and 130.204 mph, achieving a new provisional record of 129.570 mph. The following day, under stormy skies, Hallam achieved a stunning 133.779 mph, resulting in the new official record of 132.050 mph.

Engineering Excellence

The record-setting Interceptor 650 showcased the capabilities of Royal Enfield’s 650 Twin engine. The motorcycle retained its traditional twin-loop steel frame from the road bike, with minimal modifications allowed under class rules. The Geelong-based HRA team, led by Andrew and Kate Hallam, expressed their satisfaction with the performance, highlighting the reliability and robustness of the Royal Enfield 650 Twin engine.
