Mocap Rate Rider Wear For The Discerning And Wary

MOCAP

MOCAP, or the Motorcycle Clothing Assessment Program, is an independent, free resource supported by governments and private road safety organisations across Australia and New Zealand, and a very useful initiative for riders looking to buy protective riding gear.

Up to now MOCAP have mostly rated protective clothing on safety, breathability and price, testing and comparing different brands of jackets, pants, gloves and helmets, then rating them and making them searchable by those criteria.

Recently they also published a study undertaken by Deakin University, published in December 2022, which is a guide to manufacturing and designing protective clothing, making available details and technical issues that many smaller manufacturers could not afford to research themselves.

The guide is also of interest to riders in understanding which materials and manufacturing techniques provide the best protection for their particular riding styles and preferences, and how relatively simple and often inexpensive changes can make a great deal of difference to the efficiency of their gear.

The MOCAP initiative has received the Road Safety Award by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM).
