In a recent YouTube video, a motorcycle owner tested various anti-theft devices using a real-world scenario with a Suzuki GSXR 600, one of the most commonly stolen motorcycles. A “thief” was tasked with breaking into each device, and the process was monitored with a camera.

The first device tested was the classic brake lock. While it was relatively inexpensive, small, and easy to use, it took the thief just two minutes to bypass it using a screwdriver and a wrench. The conclusion was that a trained thief could easily overcome this device in seconds.

Next, the motorcycle rotor lock and the Vulcan chain were tested together. The thief had to resort to using power tools to get past both devices, indicating that these methods are more secure than the brake lock. However, the rotor lock could be improved by having a louder alarm.

An interesting observation during the experiment was that none of the bystanders intervened or called the police, even though the “theft” was happening in broad daylight. This highlights the importance of investing in effective anti-theft devices to secure your motorcycle.

The “mac daddy” of motorcycle theft devices, featuring a special “Barronium” coating to dull angle grinders, was also put to the test. Although it took the thief longer and multiple tools to break into this lock, they were ultimately successful. The device is secure but not impenetrable, suggesting that there are no foolproof options.

While no anti-theft device is entirely thief-proof, some options provide better security than others. The rotor lock and Vulcan chain showed better resistance against theft, while the brake lock was easily bypassed. Ultimately, motorcycle owners should invest in reliable anti-theft devices and be aware of the common methods used by thieves to protect their bikes.
