They claim to be the world’s largest helmet manufacturer having produced millions of helmets. And, they have been at it for more than 50 years—but you may not have heard of them. The company is called SMK Helmets (global site).

Family business

SMK is a family-owned and operated business. The family’s father, Madhu Bhushan Khurana, his wife, son, and daughter all work for the company. His daughter Shilpa Arora and her company, Bikerz US, is handling the distribution of SMK Helmets in the US.

Each helmet is designed, tested, and manufactured in house at SMK’s four “state of the art” manufacturing facilities in India. To give you an idea of how big their manufacturing facilities are, they have more than 753,000 square feet of manufacturing space and more than 2,800 employees.

SMK Helmets

SMK offers full face, modular, off-road, and open face helmets. Of course, each of the helmets meets or exceeds the standards of the countries where they are sold. All US helmets offer ECE and DOT certifications. In addition, their modular helmets offer dual PJ certification meaning they meet the certifying agency’s safety requirements with the chin piece up or down.

SMK offers a good sized selection of helmet models. There are traditional full-face style helmets, as well as some full face retro-look models. Other available features include movable lever operated internal sun visors, Pinlock ready visors with an included Pinlock insert, quick change visor capability, and dry ride interiors.

While at the AIMExpo, I was able to see and try on a few helmet models. The helmet’s fit and finish looked good. When I tried them on, they fit snugly but comfortably.
