Gajser Claims Podium and Zanchi Shines in Patagonia: MXGP 2024 Highlights
In a thrilling start to the 2024 MXGP season, Team HRC’s Tim Gajser showcased his championship potential with a notable performance in Patagonia, Argentina. After a strong qualification race win, Gajser encountered a challenging start in moto one but managed to recover to finish fifth. This set him up well for a stellar moto two, where he clinched his second moto victory of the year, landing him in third place overall for the round.
Despite a promising start with the first gate pick, Gajser’s race was not without hurdles. A poor initial start saw him drop to 13th place, but his determination and speed allowed him to fight back, setting the fastest lap of the race and closing in on fourth place by the end. His second race performance was dominant, as he took the lead early and maintained a commanding pace, although it wasn’t enough to surpass his previous five-one result from last year which saw him on the top step of the podium.
Unfortunately, Gajser’s teammate, Ruben Fernandez, was sidelined due to a lower left-leg injury sustained during the qualification race. Fernandez had won this GP last year and was expected to be a key contender, but his absence was a significant setback for the team.
In MX2, Ferruccio Zanchi made an impressive debut for Team HRC. Starting from outside the top ten in both motos, Zanchi demonstrated remarkable skill and perseverance, finishing seventh in moto one and eighth in moto two for a commendable sixth overall. His ability to navigate through a competitive field on the fast Argentine track highlighted his potential, and with improved starts, Zanchi is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming rounds.
As the series now heads to Arroyomolinos, Spain, for the second round on March 23-24, Gajser will aim to continue his podium streak, while Fernandez focuses on recovery. With Zanchi’s promising debut, Team HRC looks set for an exciting season ahead in MXGP.
