Commissioned by long-time customer Mike John Otto, this project was not just a cosmetic upgrade but a comprehensive overhaul that touched every aspect of the bike. Axel Budde’s approach to this build exemplifies his philosophy of blending aesthetic beauty with mechanical excellence.

The heart of this machine, the V-twin engine, underwent an extensive rebuild. This wasn’t just a tune-up; it was a resurrection. The engine now boasts fresh pistons, a performance camshaft, and a valvetrain borrowed from a Le Mans model, all contributing to its robust 1,000cc displacement. The gearbox was similarly treated, enhanced with a modern flywheel to ensure smoother power delivery. The addition of new carburetors, paired with custom velocity stacks, ensures that the engine breathes better than ever, further amplifying its performance.

No Kaffeemaschine build is complete without Axel’s signature stainless-steel exhaust system. For the 1000SP, this included intricate chrome plating that adds a touch of sophistication to the bike’s aggressive stance. The electrical system also received a modern upgrade, featuring a new wiring harness and a lightweight lithium-ion battery, ensuring reliability and efficiency.

The suspension setup on this 1000SP was a critical area of focus. The front forks were equipped with Bitubo internals, providing a premium feel and superior handling. In the rear, the factory shock absorbers were replaced with high-grade Ikon alternatives, offering improved comfort and stability. The motorcycle’s stopping power is delivered by refurbished brakes, while laced aftermarket wheels, wrapped in Bridgestone Battlax BT-46 tires, complete the package.

Moving into the rider’s domain, the ergonomics of the bike were tailored for a cafe racer stance. Clip-on handlebars, along with billet aluminum rearsets, transform the riding position, making it both aggressive and engaging. The cockpit is minimalistic, featuring a single aftermarket dial that complements the bike’s vintage aesthetic.

The bodywork is where this build truly shines. The repurposed fuel tank from a Moto Guzzi Le Mans I is the focal point, concealing the bike’s electronics beneath its sleek lines. This tank, combined with a handmade black leather seat, creates a seamless flow that is both functional and visually striking. The side covers are understated, filling the subframe triangle without drawing attention away from the overall design.

The rear of the bike is adorned with a discreet fender, an LED taillight, and a tastefully integrated license plate bracket. Up front, a new mudguard and a carbon fiber cafe-style fairing add to the bike’s aerodynamic profile.

Mike, the bike’s owner, played an active role in its final aesthetic, designing a livery that is nothing short of breathtaking. The color scheme, a harmonious blend of black, white, and green, is accentuated by diagonal stripes that run across the fuel tank and side covers. This design was executed with precision in Kaffeemaschine’s paint booth, bringing Mike’s vision to life with immaculate attention to detail.
