This is where the story starts, on Gloucester Road just out of Wingham.
THERE WAS A TIME when an adventure bike, or even a dirt bike, would have been just right for Thunderbolt’s Way. It was the theoretically tar, but the surface was so badly chopped up that many road bikes found their suspensions … inadequate In fact, I remember a time when the last 20km north to Nowendoc was surfaced with a particularly aggressive lot of jagged black rocks,but that’s probably going back a little too far…..
