250 GP machines return to the Isle of Man – Classic TT

GP-spec 250s last raced on the Mountain as part of the TT meeting in 2004 but the new Lightweight race as part of the 2016 Classic TT will provide fans with the chance to see the rapid two-strokes duelling once more.

Legends such as John McGuinness and Bruce Anstey cut their teeth on the nimble but fickle ‘strokers’ and both took their first wins in the class. Indeed, John still retains the class lap record (118.29mph) and even brought the bike on which he won the 1999 Lightweight TT to this year’s IoMTT event.

Although the entry list for the inaugural Lightweight Classic TT is not finalised there are some very exciting names on the provisional list, and the interest from riders and owners has been massive (as you’d expect from such a popular class).
