Forest fun at the Watagans

Over 600 riders enjoyed the 15th annual trail bike rally at Watagans State Forest, NSW on 4-5 August 2018.

With some of the best trails around, the event has become a must-do for enduro riders eager to enjoy a full of camping and riding breakfast and lunch, event t-shirt and the opportunity to win a heap of free gear from sponsors including a brand new GYTR accessorised WR450F. Team Active8 brought their race truck and offered bLU cRU assist – essential maintenance work to any rider on a Yamaha.

Team Manager AJ Roberts offered advice and setup tips while racers Josh Green and Michael Driscoll showed riders the hot lines around the Yamaha demo lap.

A mix of nine WR250Fs and 450Fs were available all weekend for riders to test on a 10km loop. One rider not only tested the demo bikes but also benefited from bLU cRU assist for his well worn WR250F. 23-year-old Luke Hiscock from Toowoomba, QLD explains: “The Active8 guys were joking about the condition of my 2015 WR250F on Saturday,” explains Luke. “I said: ‘No worries cause I’m gonna win the WR450F tomorrow’,” he continues. And so he did, Josh Green randomly selecting his name from the bucket of entrants.

The event was slickly organised by Trail Bike Rallies and major sponsor Powersport Central – namely Rod Cartright and Chris Flaherty – with a wide range of assistants and sweep riders. Roads in the area were closed to ensure everyone got through safely and there was a range of challenges from Easy to Hard to Expert which included the notorious Heartbreak Hill and Erzberg Rock Climb. “We were very happy with the event, everyone seems to have enjoyed themselves,” says organiser Rod Cartright. “The pre-registered numbers were all good although slightly fewer than normal entrants registered on the day which is probably due to the dry and dusty conditions,” he adds.
